Dear Advisory Board committee, Executive committee, officers and members

As I take on the honor of being President of the Asia Pacific Society of Speech Language and Hearing (APSSLH), I feel very grateful and motivated. Looking back on my twenty years with APSSLH, I remember how much our annual conferences have changed our profession and helped the communities we serve.

The diversity and expertise of participants from various Asian countries have continually inspired me. The collaborative spirit observed at our conferences, where speech-language pathologists and audiologists share their challenges and find creative solutions, shows our commitment to improving our field. It’s also encouraging to see local students participate, even when the budget is tight. This openness strengthens our community and helps us move our mission forward.

The Asia-Pacific region is characterized by a wealth of cultures, languages, and various levels of development within our professions. My vision for APSSLH is to support people dealing with speech, language, hearing, and swallowing disorders. Together, we can build networks among professionals based on shared interests and goals, improving our clinical practices through teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration.
As your new APSSLH President, I’m honored to collaborate with you and join you on this mission. I believe our combined efforts will greatly improve education and create valuable experiences for everyone in our society. I look forward to connecting with all of you as we work toward our goals.

Yours Faithfully,
Pao chuan (Jean) Torng, CCC-SLP, Ph.D
